Northern NEW MEXICO


Area Description:

This Northern Region includes Rio Arriba, Taos, Santa Fe and Los Alamos counties. Northern New Mexico is a very unique and diverse region that encompasses portions of the Colorado Plateau, the Chama River watershed, the northern Rio Grande watershed, and the San Juan and Sangre de Cristo mountains. Predominate rural economic activities and land uses include farming, ranching, tourism, ranchette development, and military research and defense installations. Land ownership is mixed and includes Carson and Santa Fe National Forest, Bureau of Land Management, tribal, land grant and private lands. NMLC has protected over 1,600 acres in this region and is working to preserve significant agricultural lands, wildlife habitat and open space in this very rich and diverse part of New Mexico.
