The La Tier property is located just south of Sugarite State Park about seven miles northeast of Raton. The property consists of mixed pinyon-juniper woodland and grassland. Mule deer, wild turkey, black bear and mountain lion are known to occur on the property. The conservation easement was originally granted by Charlotte La Tier to the Taos Land Trust in 2002 and subsequently transferred to NMLC in 2004. Ms. La Tier placed the property under an easement to protect it from subdivision and to ensure the permanent preservation of its natural habitat and scenic beauty.
