The primary tool the New Mexico Land Conservancy employs to conserve land is a legal document referred to as the “conservation easement”.  The majority of our projects involve working with private landowners to complete donations of conservation easements.

The New Mexico Land Conservancy provides conservation stewardship, monitoring and legal defense for the conservation easements it holds into perpetuity. We maintain a Stewardship Fund separate from our operating funds for these purposes.

In addition to donated easements, NMLC may work with landowners to pursue funding to help purchase conservation easements. NMLC has completed many projects where funds were used to purchase a portion of the value of the conservation easement. Available funding for these projects is generally restricted to certain properties that meet the goals and purpose of the specific funding source.

If you would like to talk to a person rather than read through documentation, we welcome your call and would love to tell you more about it (505-986-3801).  You can also complete our web form and request that someone contact you.
